Hydrilla is a fresh water flora. This flora grows to the surface of the water from a depth as great as 20 feet. This is a very familiar plant because it can almost grow in any fresh waters such as springs, rivers, fenland, ditches, and lakes. Hydrillas can grow only a few inches in water, but they can also grow to about 20 feet deep underwater. This plant can grow in either oligotrophic (low nutrient) or eutrophic (high nutrient) water.  
 
The tolerance temperature level of a Hydrilla is 20o C to 27o C; hence, it cannot stand harsh climates. The Hydrilla has thick branches that open out upon reaching the surface, molding mats. The Hydrilla can have submerged stems that reach up to twenty five feet in length. The Hydrilla roots, also know as Rhizomes, are  often than not off-white or yellow in color. | The roots or Rhizomes of the Hydrilla are often yellow or off-white in color. }There are lots of ways a Hydrilla can multiply. Fragmentation, seeds, tubers and turions (auxiliary buds) are the primary ways the Hydrilla propagates.
 
When likened with other plants the Hydrilla has several advantages. The Hydrilla only needs 1% sunshine to grow. These floras also take up the rich foods from its place so that the other native sources can’t get it.Hydrillas can grow very quickly, competing with the native species, and that’s why it is considered a pestilent pest. Hydrilla is especially dangerous because it can almost entirely take over a body of water before appearing on the surface. When it covers a big area, all the marine plants that fall under it die due to the lack of sunshine or nutrition. When Hydrilla encompasses a large area, all the other aquatic floras fail because the do not receive enough sunshine or foods.
 
Every Last year, millions of dollars worth of weed killers and mechanical harvesters are used to keep this obnoxious pest under proper control, so that it doesn’t cross the limit. People can’t fish in areas where Hydrilla is found because it so adversely burdens the other plant life in the area. Hydrilla is responsible for slowing water flow and congesting irrigation and flood- control canals. Hydrilla impedes swimmers, boaters and fishermen alike. When a lot of Hydrilla grows together, it can totally take down that areas water oxygen level.
 
The Elodea and Egeria are ofttimes confused with the Hydrilla. Hydrillas have one or more teeth on the underside of the midrib. Elodea and Egeria do not have teeth present on their undersides. Neither Elodea nor Egeria has teeth on their bottom. Because of the teeth, Hydrilla will feel rough. Hydrilla will feel rough due to the presence of the teeth on the bottom of the flora. The blossoms the Egeria produce are also bigger than the Hydrilla. 
 
Hydrilla is consumed by macro and micro invertebrates. Upon dying, these micro and macro organisms decompose and become food for other land and marine wildlife. When Hydrilla dies naturally, they are decomposed by bacteria and fungi and the end result is “detritus” a food for a number of marine invertebrates. Many ducks consume Hydrilla turions and tubers, but it is not believed a fine wildlife feed.

Free: The Magic Word in Copy Writing

There’s no doubt people like getting goods or services gratis. If you include the word free in your headline somewhere, it’s more likely to be digested. In truth, the most profitable ads I’ve read always had free sticking out boldly somewhere in the ad. There are some caveats to that however.

First, if you hoodwink people into reading your ad using a massive FREE at the top, then don’t deliver on your offer, your ad will definitely fail and your reputation will take a bath. You may also get a call from the advertising standards people. For example, I once read an ad headed with the word FREE. The word took up a third of the ad. Underneath it said: soft drink with every main meal over $20. So what I thought.

If you use the word free in such a bold way, make sure that the offer is truly something remarkable, or else the whole thing will backfire and people will be turned off dealing with you (when they were neutral about buying from you before). Secondly, if you are offering something completely FREE (that is, with no obligation to purchase anything else) be prepared for a surprise.

Eurasian Milfoil, an Invasive Threat to American Ponds

Eurasian milfoil is a sensitive looking flora that was once a everyday flora to find in fresh water fish tanks.

All The Same, It did not stay there. Now it is thought to be an invasive species that threatens The northern Us fresh water streams, rivers, pools and lakes.

In its indigenous Eurasian surroundings it is a relatively innocent flora (but still a bit of a pest) but here, out of its normal waters, it takes over and demolish ecosystems, clogs water intakes and power plants, and makes them unwanted for recreational purposes.

A Number Of hypotheses are around that explain its introduction. One is that it caught a ride on the ballast of a ship coming from Europe or Asia. That is a good guess. When they tested ships departing invaded water, 25 percent carried some milfoil with it. The other main theory is it was introduced by people throwing away aquarium plants or packing material used to ship live worms.

The most hazardous thing about this flora is that it can adapt to live in about every kind of aquatic habitat in North America. It can live in the cold of Washington State or the warmth of Florida. From clear waters of the Rockies to the salty waters of the salt marshes it can prosper. To make its life easier, nothing seems to like eating it.

Once established it spreads rapidly in waters that range from two feet to up to 30 feet, matting up just below the surface and clogging out the native vegetation. Some floras like millet are given little chance to grow, which causes troubles because they are a food source for many and a home for small marine animals. This matted growth also causes difficulty for any mammals or birds that fish for their food. Further more, the large mats keep the wind from properly oxygenizing the water and suffocating adult fish as well as helping spawn algae blooms which further exacerbate the problem.

These plants are problematic to individuals as well. Not only does milfoil reduce water quality but the mats make shoreline swimming hopeless. Milfoil impedes fish reproduction, which means fewer fishermen. Milfoil is also a problem for boaters because it can become entangled on the engine, cause risks for water skiers and block navigation hazards from the sailors view.

Communities and businesses are also put at a disadvantage because of this little water plant. Water intakes or over flows can get clogged leading to deficits in some places and flooding in others. Dykes and electricity output can also be affected if the water plant mats get caught up in the dams.

Milfoil control has been difficult. Broadly Speaking poisonous substances are out of the question as they demolish the very ecosystem they were meant to save. Physically removing the plant isn’t fully successful because the bits that break off can form new plants elsewhere. For that reason the large mechanical harvesters are only used in the worst cases and then only as a first step. Milfoil has been more successfully removed by vacuum dragging, which can pick up any broken pieces left behind. A weevil maybe the answer to the milfoil dilemma as it love to eat the water plant and is a natural way to fight the weed.

Milfoil is just one type of unwanted species that has overstayed its welcome; many other unwanted aquatic plants are still thriving across the nation. When plants or animals are inserted outside their natural surroundings, you can’t anticipate the implications.

As I watch my friends look for horses for sale horses for sale, the same theme keeps repeating itself over and over—suitability. We’ve all seen it; the wrong horse for the job. I see people buying horses that are not suitable because of conformation, age, previous work, movement or incompatibility with the rider, among other reasons. Most common seems to be the young horse buy—the four-year-old horse for the child or someone who just intends to ride on the trails.

Sure, you can find a nice quiet four-year-old, but, really, what are the chances he’ll be a trustworthy mount for a weak inexperienced amateur or the older recreational trail rider? Another wrong horse scenario involves conformation. One friend was looking at horse sales that were billed as “dressage or hunter” prospects. (Frankly, I don’t see how a horse could be both except if you intend to ride just the lower levels of dressage, but that’s just my feeling.) She was shopping for a dressage horse and came back with a trial horse who seemed pleasant enough in personality, but he was a big draft cross type, maybe Irish draught.

“I dunno…,” I mussed, taking in his big, draft body, huge legs, and clunky feet. When he cantered, he sounded like a medieval war horse. “I’m no expert, but he looks more like he’d be real happy as a field hunter.” “Really? They said he’d probably go to fourth level, maybe higher,” she said. “I thought you said you wanted something small enough so that you could mount it from the ground in case you got thrown?” I wondered aloud, figuring he was over 17 hands. She didn’t answer. She was shorter than me, and I knew I’d have to vault off the side of the arena to get on this monster. And it’s not like she sticks like glue either; she was off her previous horse more often than not. Needless to say, her instructor did not feel he’d make an upper level dressage horse, and he went back before his trial week was up.

Maybe I’m not one to comment. I’ve never sold my horses. I’ve loved them for what they could do. I don’t really know what it’s like to go horse shopping with the intent on finding a horse for a particular job. In a recent lesson with my dressage trainer, we began to push Lady’s training a little further, encouraging her to carry herself in a more advanced frame. Because we’re going slowly and carefully, she’s picking up the work quickly and agreeably (that is, when she isn’t distressed by squealing pigs.) I am well aware that she is not built to move through the upper levels of dressage, but that’s okay. She doesn’t like jumping and she’s not terribly bold without a lot of encouragement. But she’s a nicely forward, pretty mover for an ex-racehorse, with a lovely head and neck. I’m happy to work with what she’s willing to give while keeping her sound and sane.

My riding aspirations revolve around what my horse is capable of doing—her suitability for the task. I will find the right job for her so that she can be the right horse. Just make sure if you are looking at a horse sale, that you look for the right reasons and the right horse. With that said, I hope you find what you are looking for and happy trails!

The beer (wine) type solution needs to be run through a still to extract the alcohol from the solution.

The ethanol now needs to be filtered to get rid of excess organic volatiles.

Step Five: . . . Dehydration

The ethanol needs to be “dried”. After the distillation process there will be a certain amount of water in the ethanol you have just created - this can be dried running the ethanol through Zeolite a readily available product for drying ethanol.

Step Six: . . . Ethanol Into e85

Now simply convert the pure ethanol into e85 by adding 15% unleaded gasoline to your ethanol. e85 is nothing more than 85% ethanol mixed with 15% gasoline.

The Island of South Georgia

The island of South Georgia, an inhospitable frozen wasteland of glaciers, snow-capped mountains and freezing winds, lies in the southern Atlantic Ocean east of Tierra del Fuego.

In 1916 Ernest Shackleton became stranded on Elephant Island to the south-west, while on his Imperial Straits Antarctic Expedition, Shackleton and a small group of men left the rest of the party to summon help and ended up, after an arduous journey, at King Haakon Bay on the south coast of South Georgia.

They then managed to make it overland to reach help at Stromness whaling station, which led to the rescue of the remaining men. Daring a later expedition in 1922, Shackleton died on board a ship off South Georgia and he is buried on the island at Grytviken.

There is no permanent human population on South Georgia, only the British Government Officer, research scientists and museum staff at Grytviken, but there are enormous populations of penguins, the largest colonies anywhere on earth, with around 400,000 breeding pairs of king penguins, two million pairs of the macaroni penguins and large colonies of four other species.

Visitors come here to watch penguin couples overcome the extreme climatic conditions and nurture their precious eggs through hatching and the vulnerable chick stage into fully fledged members of the colony. The charming creatures work tirelessly together avoiding the seals that lurk in the shallows waiting to pounce and protecting their young from ferocious skua gulls who will snatch one and tear it to shreds.

When he landed here in the 18th century, Captain Cook noted the huge seal and whale populations around the island, but just two hundred years later both had been hunted nearly to extinction. The Development of Trucks During the Great War

An immediate demand for mechanical military transport following the declaration of war in Europe was partly solved by a considerable influx of well-engineered cross-country trucks from the United States. Those countries that had prepared in advance by introducing “subsidy” schemes soon found they were in a far superior position to those that had not. Despite this, problems abounded.

Steam-powered vehicles such as traction engines had been used on a small scale in earlier situations, but the internal-combustion engined truck had never been used in war conditions, and weaknesses in design were soon apparent. These included insufficient power, lack of ground clearance, and poor protection of mechanical units from the ravages of water and mud, for which the Flanders battlefields were soon renowned.

There was, however, another major problem that few had foreseen. Both sides in the conflict used many components supplied by firms on the opposing side: German-manufactured Bosch magnetos were used almost exclusively by the Allies, while German forces relied largely upon British and French manufactured Dunlop and Michelin tyres. Luckily, the Bosch magneto had been developed jointly by Robert Bosch and the American Frederick Simms, and German supplies were replaced by magnetos from the Simms Magneto Co factory, Watsersing, New Jersey.

At this stage it is worth looking in depth at some of the “subsidy” schemes operating at the time. The instigators of this idea were the Germans who, in the years prior to 1914, had been building up their military reserves. The German scheme is understood to have applied to any truck which an operator was prepared to release to the military upon mobilization. The operator received an initial grant of 150 pounds towards the purchase of the vehicle, followed by a subsidy of 60 pounds for each of the next four years. By the time war was declared, some 825 “subsidy” trucks had been released to the German Armed Forces.

A similar scheme was organized by commercial vehicle industry. The British government offered the purchaser of an approved vehicle a subsidy. However, the vehicle had to be handed over to the authorities within 72 hours of mobilization.

One of the most advanced British “subsidy” types was the 3 1/2 ton Dennis `A’-Type, although the `L’ or `RAF’-Type Leyland was certainly the best known. The Dennis had considerable influence on British truck design after the war, its most striking feature being a rear axle with removable upper casing containing the worm shaft, worm wheel, differential and bearings, thus enabling the entire final-drive mechanism to be inspected or replaced without disturbing either the chassis or the wheels.

Leyland Motors, on the other hand, built both a 1 1/2-tonner and the 3-ton ‘RAF’-Type, while Albion supplied 6000 “subsidy” vehicles, and the Associated Equipment Co Ltd over 10,000. Many of their London General Omni-bus Co `B’-Type open-top double-deck buses were also commandeered and ordered to the Front. The standardization of models and components required by the British “subsidy” scheme enabled so-called cannibalization to take place to keep transport moving, whereas the adoption of any suitable vehicle by the French and German forces gave no such advantage.

As the war progressed, so British forces began to take delivery of new American-built trucks designed specifically for arduous work. Amongst these was the Mack `AC’, nicknamed the “Bulldog” because of its snub nose and rugged construction. Ultimately, this became so well-known by its nickname that the bulldog was adopted as the Mack logo, which it remains to this day.

Some American manufacturers, such as General Motors, were now concentrating almost exclusively on the construction of military vehicles, while certain European manufacturers, such as MAN, Magirus in Germany or Societe d’Outillage Mecanique et d’Usinage d’Artilleries (Somua) in France, were building their first trucks in an attempt to turn the tide. Indeed, Somua was established for the sole purpose of building army trucks.

Throughout the Western world, factories not involved in the manufacture of military trucks were turned over to the production of armaments such as shells, firearms and aero engines, while others manufactured both military vehicles and also armaments.

Many American-built trucks saw service not only in Europe but also in the Mexican border campaign of 1916, when the United States government waged war against the Mexican bandit Pancho Villa. This served as a proving ground for these trucks, many of which were later shipped to Europe for military service. At this time, few US-built military trucks were standardized, and it was not until the development of the US Quartermaster Corps’s `B’-Class heavy truck, known as the “Liberty”, that proper standardization occurred.

On the civilian front, gas was used to combat the lack of petrol, and in the United States the 1916 Federal Aid Road Act was instrumental in establishing a new interstate highway system which contributed greatly to the development of American commercial vehicles. With a rubber tyre shortage, particularly in Germany where manufacturers had relied upon British and French made supplies, unconventional steel-wheeled vehicles, sometimes incorporating metal plates backed by small leaf springs, appeared for a short while, but these were mainly for heavy tractors used for hauling artillery.

Developments in commercial vehicle design, such as the use of shaft-drive, glass. windscreens and electric rather than acetylene lighting, were now creeping in from the passenger car side and, although apparent in many light commercials, it was some years before these were adopted for the heavy commercial market. Pneumatic tyres were also becoming commonplace on lighter types but, again, were to remain a rarity on “heavies” for some time.

While the war did much to establish new standards for commercial vehicles, military vehicle requirements were far different from those used on the public highway. High payloads and economy were more important to civilian operators than high ground clearance or all-wheel drive. Thus, with a return to peace, much re-organization was necessary.

The Island of South Georgia

The island of South Georgia, an inhospitable frozen wasteland of glaciers, snow-capped mountains and freezing winds, lies in the southern Atlantic Ocean east of Tierra del Fuego.

This remote Antarctic island is part of the British territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The British claim to sovereignty of South Georgia dates from 1775 when Captain Cook landed here and dismissed the island as not worth discovering. Argentina also claimed the island in 1027, an unresolved dispute which contributed to the 1982 Falklands war when Argentine forces briefly occupied South Georgia.

In 1916 Ernest Shackleton became stranded on Elephant Island to the south-west, while on his Imperial Straits Antarctic Expedition, Shackleton and a small group of men left the rest of the party to summon help and ended up, after an arduous journey, at King Haakon Bay on the south coast of South Georgia.

They then managed to make it overland to reach help at Stromness whaling station, which led to the rescue of the remaining men. Daring a later expedition in 1922, Shackleton died on board a ship off South Georgia and he is buried on the island at Grytviken.

There is no permanent human population on South Georgia, only the British Government Officer, research scientists and museum staff at Grytviken, but there are enormous populations of penguins, the largest colonies anywhere on earth, with around 400,000 breeding pairs of king penguins, two million pairs of the macaroni penguins and large colonies of four other species.

Visitors come here to watch penguin couples overcome the extreme climatic conditions and nurture their precious eggs through hatching and the vulnerable chick stage into fully fledged members of the colony. The charming creatures work tirelessly together avoiding the seals that lurk in the shallows waiting to pounce and protecting their young from ferocious skua gulls who will snatch one and tear it to shreds.

When he landed here in the 18th century, Captain Cook noted the huge seal and whale populations around the island, but just two hundred years later both had been hunted nearly to extinction. South Georgia is, however, home to 95 per cent of the world’s southern fur seals, half the southern elephant seals, 250,000 Albatrosses, including the massive Wandering Albatross, and up to ten million other seabirds, making a trip here a totally unique experience.

The Development of Trucks During the Great War

An immediate demand for mechanical military transport following the declaration of war in Europe was partly solved by a considerable influx of well-engineered cross-country trucks from the United States. Those countries that had prepared in advance by introducing “subsidy” schemes soon found they were in a far superior position to those that had not. Despite this, problems abounded.

Steam-powered vehicles such as traction engines had been used on a small scale in earlier situations, but the internal-combustion engined truck had never been used in war conditions, and weaknesses in design were soon apparent. These included insufficient power, lack of ground clearance, and poor protection of mechanical units from the ravages of water and mud, for which the Flanders battlefields were soon renowned.

There was, however, another major problem that few had foreseen. Both sides in the conflict used many components supplied by firms on the opposing side: German-manufactured Bosch magnetos were used almost exclusively by the Allies, while German forces relied largely upon British and French manufactured Dunlop and Michelin tyres. Luckily, the Bosch magneto had been developed jointly by Robert Bosch and the American Frederick Simms, and German supplies were replaced by magnetos from the Simms Magneto Co factory, Watsersing, New Jersey.

At this stage it is worth looking in depth at some of the “subsidy” schemes operating at the time. The instigators of this idea were the Germans who, in the years prior to 1914, had been building up their military reserves. The German scheme is understood to have applied to any truck which an operator was prepared to release to the military upon mobilization. The operator received an initial grant of £150 towards the purchase of the vehicle, followed by a subsidy of £60 for each of the next four years. By the time war was declared, some 825 “subsidy” trucks had been released to the German Armed Forces.

A similar scheme was organized by commercial vehicle industry. The British government offered the purchaser of an approved vehicle a subsidy. However, the vehicle had to be handed over to the authorities within 72 hours of mobilization.

One of the most advanced British “subsidy” types was the 3½ ton Dennis `A’-Type, although the `L’ or `RAF’-Type Leyland was certainly the best known. The Dennis had considerable influence on British truck design after the war, its most striking feature being a rear axle with removable upper casing containing the worm shaft, worm wheel, differential and bearings, thus enabling the entire final-drive mechanism to be inspected or replaced without disturbing either the chassis or the wheels.

Leyland Motors, on the other hand, built both a 1 1/2-tonner and the 3-ton ‘RAF’-Type, while Albion supplied 6000 “subsidy” vehicles, and the Associated Equipment Co Ltd over 10,000. Many of their London General Omni-bus Co `B’-Type open-top double-deck buses were also commandeered and ordered to the Front. The standardization of models and components required by the British “subsidy” scheme enabled so-called cannibalization to take place to keep transport moving, whereas the adoption of any suitable vehicle by the French and German forces gave no such advantage.

As the war progressed, so British forces began to take delivery of new American-built trucks designed specifically for arduous work. Amongst these was the Mack `AC’, nicknamed the “Bulldog” because of its snub nose and rugged construction. Ultimately, this became so well-known by its nickname that the bulldog was adopted as the Mack logo, which it remains to this day.

Some American manufacturers, such as General Motors, were now concentrating almost exclusively on the construction of military vehicles, while certain European manufacturers, such as MAN, Magirus in Germany or Societe d’Outillage Mecanique et d’Usinage d’Artilleries (Somua) in France, were building their first trucks in an attempt to turn the tide. Indeed, Somua was established for the sole purpose of building army trucks.

Throughout the Western world, factories not involved in the manufacture of military trucks were turned over to the production of armaments such as shells, firearms and aero engines, while others manufactured both military vehicles and also armaments.

Many American-built trucks saw service not only in Europe but also in the Mexican border campaign of 1916, when the United States government waged war against the Mexican bandit Pancho Villa. This served as a proving ground for these trucks, many of which were later shipped to Europe for military service. At this time, few US-built military trucks were standardized, and it was not until the development of the US Quartermaster Corps’s `B’-Class heavy truck, known as the “Liberty”, that proper standardization occurred.

On the civilian front, gas was used to combat the lack of petrol, and in the United States the 1916 Federal Aid Road Act was instrumental in establishing a new interstate highway system which contributed greatly to the development of American commercial vehicles. With a rubber tyre shortage, particularly in Germany where manufacturers had relied upon British and French made supplies, unconventional steel-wheeled vehicles, sometimes incorporating metal plates backed by small leaf springs, appeared for a short while, but these were mainly for heavy tractors used for hauling artillery.

Developments in commercial vehicle design, such as the use of shaft-drive, glass. windscreens and electric rather than acetylene lighting, were now creeping in from the passenger car side and, although apparent in many light commercials, it was some years before these were adopted for the heavy commercial market. Pneumatic tyres were also becoming commonplace on lighter types but, again, were to remain a rarity on “heavies” for some time.

While the war did much to establish new standards for commercial vehicles, military vehicle requirements were far different from those used on the public highway. High payloads and economy were more important to civilian operators than high ground clearance or all-wheel drive. Thus, with a return to peace, much re-organization was necessary.

How to get out of debt is not that complicated.  You must first take several steps.  The most important one is to know how much you owe for each card and their APR.  Once you know this, you can list them on a piece of paper or a spreadsheet.  Listing them in order of their APR is often suggested.  I listed them in order of amount owed because I would payoff the smaller ones as soon as possible.  This way, I could use the snowball method to accelerate payments on the next card I was paying off.  For example, I paid off a card and the payment was $50.00 a month.  The next month, I would pay the $50.00 I paid towards that card to the next credit card I wanted to eliminate.  That would accelerate the amount of time it would take me to pay it off.  Once that card was paid, I would add that payment amount plus the $50.00 to the next credit card I wanted to payoff.  Your payments snowball, thus the name Snowball Payments!

While you are working on your credit card debt elimination, you should also trim your budget.  Finding ways to reduce your daily expenses is not as hard as you think.  It may require some sacrifice, but it will be worth it.  What kind of sacrifice? One that pays in the long run.  Every extra dollar you trim from your budget, you can add to snowball your payments.  That will help you get out of debt more quickly.

A few things you can do to “find” money in your budget:

1. Eliminate your morning coffee, brew your own at home or work.
2. Don’t buy the paper, read it online. 
3. Brown bag your lunch. 
4. Carpool to work or school.
