Snow Clothing and its importance

Are you curious about going sking? Then you may want some snow clothing. It has been reported that less than 10% of the skiing community in China own personal snow clothing. Twice this amount is found to be rent their snow clothing. The truth that the final 70% choose to ski in wrong or mostly incomplete ski outfit is a reason for concern.

Question 1: How healthy are Snow Jackets?

Most folks are involved concerning the condition of their ski suits. A s a result of this, not several skiers opt for renting a suit. Like a skier Miss Yu identified throughout an interview, several rented ski suits are found to be unclean and wet. In most cases, bits of water or snow are still found on them before they are worn. As a results of tis most skiers select instead to shop for their own suit. This provides them with better management over their health.

Question two: cotton clothing will do for the ski suit

It is important to require into thought the requirement for warmth and luxury when choosing Men’s Snow Jackets. Skiing outfits like jackets and skiing suits want to be as lightweight as potential while still retaining warmth. Every now and then, as a result of they’re unable to afford correct dressing, skiers opt for to wear kapoks over traditional outfits. This perspective is wrong and poses nice risks to the individuals.

Skiers are urged to wear outfits that are only waterproof and windproof. Women’s Snow Jackets ought to be immune to rain and snow. This will ensure that the clothes worn beneath stay dry and heat when the skiers are out on the slope. Free and comfy skiing outfits will provide you with the easy movement when skiing.

Because the temperature conditions of the slope are extraordinarily low, the materials utilized in making skiing outfits should be created of warmth retaining cloth i.e insulating cotton or cotton DuPont.

Finally it is necessary that you wear coloured glasses. The result of the mirrored sun from the snow will end in harmful consequences. Wearing contact lens is also not a good idea.

The Construction Of Supporting Vines

November 28, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Which comes first - the vine, or the support it grows on? Sometimes one, sometimes the other; but ideally, both together. Whether it’s an expensive pergola or a simple wire netting, no support should be either so elaborate or so out of proportion that it is in discord with the rest of the garden and the architecture. And unless the vine is in tune with all three, it does more aesthetic harm than good. A vine is only as effective as it is suited to its supporting structure, and the reverse.

Design-wise, supports and structures of all kinds should be kept on the simple side, conforming - not competing - with the architecture of the house or other buildings. Painting the supports the same color as the house helps tie the two together, with the vine to create the contrasting color and pattern. The best supports neither compete with their vines for attention nor outshine them.

Good construction is also important. A support should be strong enough from the start to bear the weight of the vine when it is fully mature - and even when it is whipped by strong wind. The bases of the support should be sunk below the frost line; and all wood, even durable cypress or redwood, should be treated with a rot-preventive. (Don’t use creosote or anything else that is poisonous to plants.) Copper nails and galvanized iron bolts also help make sure the whole thing won’t collapse when the vine has grown lush and heavy.

Most supports need periodic painting or refinishing. Plan ahead for this just like planning for the stages of tissue culture. Make the structure accessible; and train and prune the vine to keep it under control, so the stems can be removed and laid down without the job of unraveling a hopeless tangle, or even cutting the plant back to the soil.

For the sake of unity and balance in garden design, structures and supports need a reason for their appearance - to connect one building, area, or level with another; display a specimen or accent vine; keep the vine shapely and upright against a wall; lead the eye to an object of interest, like a fountain; integrate a restful bench or an outdoor living area with its surroundings.

Commercial Mortgages for UK Businesses

November 27, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

A commercial mortgage is similar to a residential mortgage in that funds can be borrowed over a long period of time, usually a maximum of 30 years, secured by a first charge on the property being bought.

In taking first charge, the lender is first in the queue to recover any debt if the property ever needs to be sold. This could happen because the mortgagee wishes to move on and sells, or perhaps has defaulted on the repayments causing the lender to foreclose.

If a first charge business mortgage already exists, it is common for different lenders to advance funds secured by way of a second charge which puts that lender as second in the ’security queue’.

Unlike residential mortgages, nearly all commercial mortgages are variable rate loans which vary in line with the Base Rate set by the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee. So, if a mortgage lender offers terms which include an interest rate of say ‘2% over base’ then a base rate of 4.5% would result in an interest rate of 6.5% being applied to the loan.

Some lenders will link their interest rates to LIBOR, which is the London Inter Bank Offered Rate. LIBOR is published daily in the Financial Times and can be found on a variety of other financial websites.

Commercial Mortgages can be secured against all kinds of freehold or long leasehold properties, such as shops, pubs, care homes, restaurants, offices, industrial factory units and more. Applying for a commercial mortgage is very much like that of a residential mortgage except that the maximum that can be borrowed is 60% of the assessed Market Value, although one or two lenders will advancelend up to 75% depending upon the proposal.

These percentages are known as the Loan-to-Value ratio, or LTV. A lower LTV means that the risk to the lender is reduced. The higher the LTV, the greater the risk to the lender and it is likely that a higher interest rate would be charged.

Lenders will not generally advance above 75% LTV to ensure that there would be enough security in the event of a forced sale, perhaps through auction when it is expected that property will sell at a discounted rate. When looking for a commercial mortgage it is advisable to shop around for the best deals and to use a specialist commercial finance broker who will possess the necessary specialist knowledge to advise you accordingly.

Back Pain In Salt Lake City

Living with back pain can be difficult, if not just totally draining. Nothing can be more exhausting than figuring out how you’re going to get your pants on when you can’t even bend down to pick them up.

I had one such incident before, and finally decided to visit a Salt Lake City Chiropractor. The doc was great, but I still have to admit I was a bit concerned. My back pain was severe and I wanted no part of anything that I thought would make it feel worse.

The doc sat me down, explained my problem to me in terms I could understand (and that’s saying something!). After that, he determined I needed an x-ray. I was concerned about it at first, because some places say that you never need an x-ray. This guy made sense, though, so I went through with it.

I was happy to see some parts of the x-ray, but also was concerned to see so much degeneration going on in my back. I guess it’s a common thing, but that doesn’t make it fun when it’s your back having the issue. I once went to a Portland Chiropractor that tried to show me the same stuff, but I guess I wasn’t really ready to listen to him.

If I ever get by way of Texas, I really want to visit this Houston Chiropractor I’ve heard so much about. I guess I should make sure that it’s okay with everyone that I see multiple chiropractors. I travel so much that in order for me to be consistent with any treatment, it would take more than one to get the job done.

How to Select a Bike

November 26, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Other than spending a small fortune on a hybrid car or electric car, commuting by bicycle is probably the best way to save gas and improve the environment. When selecting your next (or first) bicycle, it’s a good idea to understand the different bike types. By following these tips you’ll get a better understanding of the different categories..

Road bikes, also known as touring or racing bikes, are nearly always built for speed and riding on smooth surfaces like pavement. Because of this they sometimes have very narrow tires, drop handlebars (to put the rider in the most aerodynamic position), and multiple speeds (12-24 gear positions is common). Racing bikes follow the same basic layout, but with a very lightweight frame. Although road bikes and racers can be used for commuting, most casual riders opt for comfort rather than speed.

Mountain bikes are built less for speed and more for durability and control. These bikes have much larger tires, raised handlebars that put the rider in a more upright position, and are generally (but not always) heavier. Since mountain bikes are intended to be used on trails and steep inclines, the gear ratios are generally lower than that of road bikes. Some mountain bikes have up to 36 gears, advanced suspension systems to handle bumpy and rough terrain, and it is now common to find disc brakes on one or both wheels. These bikes are fine for commuting, especially if some of that commute is over uneven and rough or dirt roads.

Hybrid bikes make an attempt to combine the best of road and mountain bikes, and are intended to handle most commuting situations. These bikes have larger/narrower than mountain bikes, shock absorption systems for the occasional bumpy road, comfortable seats and handlebars, and often come with pre-fitted fenders and luggage racks for bicycle saddle bags. Many hybrids are geared much like road bikes, while others limit the number of gears to a minimum (5-7 speeds) or have the gears “sealed” in the rear hub (3-5 speeds). Hybrids are usually the best bike to choose for most commuting situations, and are a great selection for casual riders.

Many other specialized types exist, from single speed cruisers to very specialized off-road “rock riders” and BMX racers. However, most cyclists will do okay to start from the list above. Use this guide as a starting point, try out a few models of each type to see what’s a good choice for you, and then start riding. You won’t regret it.

Accessible and Exciting Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok may be the most vibrant city in South-East Asia. Its charm is accessible to anyone who is not put off by its hectic atmosphere. Bangkok demands that visitors get in and enjoy the lifestyle of South-East Asia.

Bangkok is a captivating, fascinating and dynamic city with countless places to see, terrific shopping malls, a diverse and exciting nightlife, and thousands of restaurants. Since traffic is usually standing still, it is better to take the Skytrain and remain above street level. Even there, expect crowded platforms full of people shoving to board the cars.

Siam’s new beginning.
Large parts of Thailand fell under Burmese rule during the eighteenth century. After the destruction of the former Thai capital, Ayutthaya, a handful of men under the leadership of General Tak Sin went in search of a new place to establish the government of the kingdom. In 1772, they settled on Thonburi, a small town on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The little town was built around an important temple. The site was well protected by the river and hastily erected land walls. Tak Sin expanded the temple complex into the royal temple of Wat Arun, in honour of the goddess Aruna. Wat Arun survives today as the landmark of Bangkok.

An inglorious end.
Tak Sin ruled the Kingdom of Siam with an iron fist for ten years. Years of war transformed him into a merciless despot. He saw himself as Buddha’s successor, and demanded to be worshipped as a god. This led to rebellion and to his execution on 6 April 1782. In accordance with time-honoured custom, he was placed in a cloth bag and beaten to death, because royal blood could not be allowed to spill on the earth.

A city of temples.
Following Tak Sin’s death, Bangkok was founded anew as a different city on the opposite bank of the river. King Rama I used the old capital of Ayutthaya as a model for the construction of his new residence. There he built the Royal Palace and the Royal Temple of Wat Phra Kaeo, named after the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which Rama commanded be brought here from Wat Arun. Today, this is Thailand’s most revered image of Buddha. The area around the Royal Palace is the historic centre of present-day Bangkok, Canals, called khlongs, used to wind through and around the new capital, and much of the city’s commerce took place directly on the water. Nearly all of the khlongs were filled in during the twentieth century to allow for the expansion of the city.

All of Bangkok’s busy streets and wide boulevards were originally canals. The first bridge over the Chao Phraya River, the Memorial Bridge, was dedicated in 1932, joining Thonburi with the constantly expanding city on the opposite bank. The last of the khlongs with their colourful floating markets can still be found in Thonburi.

The face of the Bangkok metropolitan district, known as Krung Thep Mahanakhon in the Thai language, was mostly modernized in the 1980s, when an explosion of construction of high-rise buildings and skyscrapers forever altered the cityscape. The Skytrain now weaves its way through a concrete and steel jungle, with only the occasional glimpse of a golden stupa or ornately decorated palace to remind the visitor of Bangkok’s glorious past.

The Grow Taller 4 Idiots program was developed by Dr. Darwin Smith for his wife. She thought she was too short, so he created a formula which, he says, helped her to increase her height from 5′3″ to 5′6″. The best thing about Dr. Smith’s program is that he says nothing about it is “magical.” Dr. Smith says that everything he says will increase your height can be proven by science. His program uses 16 videos and three books, and within the first six weeks your height will increase by at least two to three inches.

Dr. Smith states that our bones will not grow any longer after the bone plate fusion process occurs. This process usually takes place at around 16 to 18 years of age for girls and about 18 to 21 years of age for boys. This means that people that claim that they can increase the height of men or women in their 30s through their homeopathic or herbal treatments are fooling their customers.

Grow Taller 4 Idiots increases your height by correcting spine and postural problems. Because your spine accounts for 35% of your total height, you can increase your height by fixing excessive spinal curvatures that often are inherited or arise out of bad habits.

You will learn several things while you are using the Grow Taller 4 Idiots program.

You will hear about the use of scientifically proven amino acids that can increase your human growth hormone levels by 300%. Dr. Smith will show you the steps of an exercise program that also will significantly increase your human growth hormone level. He will explain why the growth process in your body stops, and what steps you can take to restart it. Using the Growtaller4Idiots program you can activate your growth plates and increase your height at any age. And you will learn how you can immediately add an inch to your height using a technique that NASA discovered.

Human growth hormone treatments like injections are a very important topic. Dr. Smith explains this type of treatment and its drawbacks by explaining whether it is safe to take this kind of injections and identifying the possible side effects of this treatment. He also explains treatments that use human growth hormone sprays.

This program will teach you how to use some everyday ingredients to increase your human growth hormone level, and it will explain the correlation between these hormones and sleeping. A product designed to increase your height is another thing that this program discusses.

Posture problems are another important subject that Dr. Smith discusses. He explains how you can reverse some postural problems like Hunch Back, Sway Back, Scoliosis and Duck Feet that can decrease your height by a few inches. Dr. Smith’s program includes twenty exercises designed by fitness experts to increase your height. There are techniques you can learn to keep your spine from shrinking, and you will learn how to correct muscle imbalances that lengthen your spine.

As part of this program you will take supplements along with following the exercise routines. These supplements, made by you using ingredients that are completely natural, are more effective than other supplements that are available.

The Grow Taller 4 Idiots program offers a very nice solution to people who have issues with their height and would like to grow taller.

Are you thinking about a move to a retirement village?

If you are thinking about moving into a retirement village, below are 10 top tips to consider:

  • Timing is the key. You need to decide when a move is right for you. If you are not ready, you won’t feel settled, but if you leave it too long you will wish you had moved earlier.
  • Age is not the best indicator. Age is simply a number. There is no set age when you should move to a retirement village.
  • Share your thinking with family and/or friends. Those who know you will help you to make the decision that is right for you.
  • Make the decision to move before selling your home. Once you have made a decision you can then deal with the issues concerning the physical move. By having a clear decision in your mind, the details of selling your home will not be as overwhelming.
Make a list of questions before visiting facilities. This will ensure that you receive the information that is most important to you. It is also a good idea to visit a number of different villages.
  • Take a friend or family member with you on village visits. This will give you another perspective from someone who is close to you.
Spend time in and around the village of your choice to get a feel for how it would be to live there. Visit the village more than once and at different times of the day.
  • Check the reputation of the village operator. Aged Care Queensland can provide you with information such as does the village operator have a good demonstrated history within the industry? What other villages do they operate? You can also check the operator’s certificate of registration.
  • Does the village provide for your future security needs? Does the village have on-site ongoing care or a transfer arrangement with another of their sites? Are Care Packages available within the village units? Is there an emergency call service available to provide 24-hour coverage?
  • Does the village offer community features? This could be physical assets such as a swimming pool or community hall or it could be opportunities and places for discussion and meeting with other residents or it could be a regular church service.

The above is by no means a comprehensive list. However, it does provide you with some food for thought when considering a move to a retirement village. Churches of Christ Care operates 13 Queensland retirement villages. For more information about retirement villages in Queensland, please visit their website www.care.cofcqld.com.au

Proform Treadmills Are A Cheaper Solution

When it comes to buying a treadmill, you really do get what you pay for. Consider buying a $1,000 treadmill if you want to use it mainly for walking and some jogging from time to time. You will probably have to pay $1,300 for a jogging treadmill, since that price will offer you a model that can handle some pounding. But we can all understand the fact there are many people who are on a tight budget and are not sure what their exercising goals are and how much will they use this fitness equipment. And it is hard to find a value that a Proform treadmill can offer here.

There is no place for heavy usage when in comes to a Proform treadmill, you won’t be able to have any intensive workouts here. Treadmills come with suggested weight limits, like the calorie counter feature, the numbers are ridiculously optimistic. But being the largest brand line of treadmills by manufacturer ICON Fitness, you probably will find a ProForm that will make the cut at a reasonable price.

It is quite a value for the price being in the budget category. The ProForm treadmills’ specs match or exceed the competition in the same group of treadmills.Simply compare them with Horizon fitness equipment machines and you will have a better picture. ICON Fitness manufactures their machines, even the budget lines, with some pretty impressive series of programs designed to help you reach you fitness goals.

If you are considering a ProForm treadmill, there are some basic guidelines to you may want to heed. Do not find the lowest model on the market, that is simply not the great idea. I strongly suggest you do not take a model with less than 2 horse power motor. Heavy weight and high intensity workouts can not be endured, so you do not want a smaller machine. You should see what Sole has to offer if you need more serious equipment. Be careful about how much space you have in your room so you can enjoy in the workout routines without any troubles.

After you acquire your modern iRobot Roomba 535, you are going to take a break knowing that you have assistance at home. The accessories that go with it, guarantee further that nothing breaks while you are absent. With the Scheduler, you can program your Roomba to dust the house on a arranged plan. The model also comes with a Virtual Wall and a Homebase. You can keep the robot out of certain spots and make sure that the Roomba docks itself when it requires to recharge its iRobot battery.

The Roomba is a disc that is 13 inches in diameter and less than 4 inches in height. Small enough to go under low furniture but big enough to handle tough cleaning jobs. The large contact sensing buffer and infrared sensor work in collaboration so that it is going to measure the floor area and know which place to concentrate on. You no longer have to enter the specs of the room because the infrared detects the size and width of the floorboards, and at the same time, knows from what to steer clear of.

Unlike the earlier generations, the iRobot Roomba 535 does think like a person. When you set off for work or drift off in your bedroom, you can abandon the device completely on its own to perform its cleaning duties. If it is in difficulty, it diffuses a beeping sound to let know you where it is. When you aren’t around, it consequentially switches itself off until you can clear it away from the section. Its facility to evade problems makes Roomba the safest cleaning device there is.

Purchasing Catering Equipment on the Web

November 22, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Sourcing catering equipment can be a demanding task. Buying online can make it easier, but only if you choose the right vendor. This article helps you make the right choice when it comes to selecting a vendor for your catering equipment need.

Selecting the right supplier of catering equipment is a big decision, one not to be taken lightly. You will want to make sure you are dealing with a reputable company, getting a good deal and the most suitable equipment for your needs.

Until relatively recently there were only two options available to enable you to select a vendor of catering equipment: call them on the telephone or go and see them in person. This isn’t always reliable as you cannot inspect the equipment on the phone and visiting a company on the other side of the country isn’t very practical. Once again the internet has come to the rescue, with on-line shopping, or e-commerce, it is now possible to see product images and specifications, compare deals and research suppliers all without leaving your desk.

Not all on-line retailers are the same
So now we have established that selecting catering equipment on-line is the way to go and far better than the old methods, we still need to ensure we select the correct supplier and the right equipment. There are several things to look out for when visiting a potential vendor’s website.

Does the website look professional and business like? Rather like a physical shop or showroom you can tell a lot about the business you are dealing with by how their website appears. You wouldn’t purchase an expensive piece of equipment from a dodgy looking shop with misspelled signs and dirty shop floor, nor should you from a business with a dodgy looking, messy and badly laid out website.

Does the website display prices? Many businesses use their websites as little more than on-line catalogues, displaying products but giving away little information. These companies hope that you will be tempted by the pictures to pick up the phone and place an order. This is an outdated way to run a website. Now days people expect the website to work much harder, they expect to see multiple images, full descriptions and lists of benefits. Any supplier of catering equipment not doing this on their site is either lazy, afraid of revealing prices or simply out of touch with how the modern world does business.

Does the site allow you to actually purchase on-line? Setting up an on-line shop takes a bit of time and money so only companies that are serious about selling on-line will go to the trouble. If a supplier has a well thought out on-line store or e-commerce shopping cart, as they are sometimes called, you can take it a sign of professionalism and good business practice. If the on-line store is packed with features like customer reviews, comparison, wish lists and order tracking you will know that this company means business and is likely to be reliable. And good on-line store will also make life easier for you the customer and that is always a good thing.

Shop around
Once you have selected a supplier of catering equipment that fits the bill in terms of having a professional website that allows on-line purchasing it is time to compare. If you have a short list of potential suppliers the deciding factor will probably be price. You might think that location should be a factor too but it needn’t be if the price is low enough. For example if you are based in Sydney and looking to buy a cake display for your restaurant you might be tempted to use a Sydney based supplier, but what if a firm in Brisbane meets all the criteria listed above and offers the cake display at a price that is lower even when shipping is taken into account. I know what I would do.

So, in summary, choose a supplier with a great web presence including a fully featured on-line store and, of course, low prices and you won’t go far wrong. Ambassador Catering Equipment is Australia’s leading on-line retailer of high quality catering equipment, commercial cooking equipment, commercial fridges, food displays, coffee machines and much more. Ambassador stocks top brands such as Roband, Fed/Thermatech, Anvil, Birko, Silfer, Boema. Based in Brisbane, Ambassador Catering Equipment can deliver all over Australia.

What is Architecture?

People need places in which to be alive, work, play, learn, worship, meet, govern, shop and eat. They have private and public spaces, indoors and out including rooms, buildings, and complexes; neighborhoods and towns and cities, suburbs and cities.

Architects, professionals trained in the art and science of building design and licensed to protect health, safety, and welfare, transform these needs into concepts and then develop the beliefs into building images that can be constructed by others.

In designing buildings, architects communicate between and assist people who have needs. These include clients, users, the public as a complete, and people who will make the spaces that satisfy those needs including builders and contractors, plumbers and painters, carpenters, and air conditioning mechanics.

Whether the project is a room or a city, a fresh building or the renovation of an old one, architects provide the professional services, ideas and insights, design and technical knowledge, drawings and specifications, administration, coordination, and informed decision making , whereby a fantastic range of functional, aesthetic, technological economic, human, environmental, and safety factors is melded into a coherent and appropriate resolution for the problems at hand.

This is what architects are, conceivers of buildings. What they do is to design, that is, supply cement images for a new structure so that it is able to be post. The primary task of the architect, then as now, is to communicate what proposed buildings should be and took like. The architect’s role is that surrounding mediator between the customer or patron, that is, the person who decides to build, and the work force with its overseers, which we may collectively refer to as the builder.

Why Architecture?

Why do you hope to turn into an architect? Have you been building with Legos since you were two? Did a counselor suggest it to you as a consequence of a strong interest and skill in mathematics and art? Or are there other reasons? Aspiring architects cite zest for drawing, creating, and designing, wish to do something positive for the environment in the community; aptitude for mathematics and science, or a link to a family group member in the profession. Whatever your reason, are you suitable for become an architect?

Is Architecture for You?
How are you aware if the pursuit of architecture is right for you? Those within the profession suggest that if you are creative or artistic and good in mathematics and science, you could have what it takes to be a prosperous architect. Even so, Dana Cuff, author of Architecture: The Story of Practice, suggests it takes more:

There are two qualities that neither employers nor educators can instill and without which, it is assumed, one cannot become a “good” architect: dedication and talent.

As a consequence of the breadth of skills and talents required to be an architect, you may be able to find your niche within the profession regardless. It takes three attributes to be a successful architecture student - intelligence, creativeness and dedication, and you must any two of the three.

Also, your education will develop your knowledge base and design talents. It is a harsh reality but, there is no magic test to decide if turning into an architect is for you. Maybe, the most effective journey to decide if you ought to consider growing an architect is to experience the profession firsthand. Ask lots of calls into question and recognize that numerous related career fields might also work for you.

For the architect must, on the one hand, be a person who’s fascinated by how things work and how he can make them work, not in the sense of inventing or repairing machinery, but rather in the organization of time-space elements to produce the wanted effect.

Socotra Island - Isolated Oasis

In the Indian Ocean off the Horn of Africa lies a small archipelago of four islands and islets. Although closer to Africa, the islands are part of the Republic of Yemen. The archipelago consists of the main island of Socotra and three smaller islands known collectively as The Brothers Abd al Kuri, Samhah and Darsa.

The islands were separated from the mainland so long ago that much of their flora and fauna has evolved here, making the islands of great ecological importance. Due to their geographical isolation, the islanders have also had little outside influence, and arriving on Socotra is like stepping back in time.

The culture on Socotra is very different from the ways of the modern world. Until the airport was built in 1999, the only way to get here was by boat, and during the monsoon season the strong winds and high seas made the island inaccessible.

Most Socotris still live without electricity, running water or a paved road. Until 1990 the island still had a barter economy, and even today most people in the mountainous areas still live in caves. The main island is a little over 130 km (80 mi) long and around 35 km (21 mi) wide.

Socotra is a place of contrasting landscapes, with the turquoise lagoon at Qalansiya and the white sand dunes at Ras Moroi, the flower-filled alpine meadows of the Haghier Mountains and the desolate cave-riddled plateau of the interior. Rising to over 1,500 m (4,921 ft), the Haghier Mountains loom over Hadibo, the island’s capital, and dominate the skyline.

The red granite peaks are peppered with silver lichens which grow thickly on the bare rocks above the tree line. Streams bubble down from the misty heights, teeming with lively fish and freshwater crabs. Limestone plateau spread east and west, providing alkaline soils for the iconic Dragon’s Blood Tree for which the islands are famous. The locals collect the blood-red resin, known as cinnabar, from the tree by making incisions in the bark.

In the ancient world, it was used to enhance the colour of precious stones and glass, and as a pigment in paints, and had various medicinal qualities. The long isolation of the Socotra archipelago and its fierce heat and drought have combined to create a unique endemic flora and fauna.

There are no fewer than 300 plant species, 113 insect species, 24 reptile species and six bird species that can be found nowhere else in the world. Botanists rank the flora of Socotra among the ten most endangered island flora in the world, and steps are being taken by the government to protect this unique and spectacular habitat.

Unless you have been living in the Himalayas the last year, you might know that it is now a reality to watch satellite TV on your PC. In addition the the coolest bit about it is it is free. Yes, you can watch satellite TV on you pc for nothing. The only requirements are that your computer runs on the Windows OS and you should have an up to date computer with a fast chip and plenty of RAM.

If you have a PC more than 5 or 6 years old, you will be unlikely to get a quality picture.

I originally discovered that you can watch satellite TV on your PC about 4 months ago when I got an email from one of those companies promoting stuff. So, I decided to try it out, and as I had little faith in it, I thought I would try it and just ask for a refund when it didn’t work. LOL.

Man was I surprised. It did work. I sent off a small amount and was sent a download link for some software that I installed directly onto my computer. Within three minutes I was able to watch over 3000 satellite channels right there on my computer.

Seriously though, the quality wasn’t great on all of them, and some of the channels were no good . There is no way I will be watching some of them, however there are some I will watch all the time. Believe it or not there are a couple where I can watch porn movies. I was very surprised at that and as a result I have had to create a new user on my PC to prevent my wife accidentally watching satellite TV on my computer and tuning into some porn.

I get plenty of sports channels, comedy and cartoons. I love being able to watch satellite TV on a PC, and even laptop. I can literally take my TV into the garage if I want.

Digital TV for Computers

Many people will already pay for satellite Television channels, or cable companies to enable them to watch premium TV channels. But now it seems you can watch satellite TV on your PC just by downloading a program and installing it on your laptop.

I tried this out last week and installed it onto my hard drive. I can now watch premium satellite channels in any room of the house. Guess what! I tuned in to a soccer game in the bath the other day. That is so unreal.

I also bought a cable that runs from my computer to my TV and lets me watch the satellite TV on my Plasma screen television. Depending on the program you are watching, the image is not as clear as a cable picture, but it’s free maybe I shouldn’t complain?

Watching digital satellite TV on a computer is really easy to set up. I will be cancelling my cable subscription next month.

By doing that I’ll be clawing back $40 a month. That will help buy some new clothes.

Tips and Pros of Using Digital Printing

November 22, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Digital Printing, as its name implies, is the process of producing digital images on physical surfaces (called substrates) using either toner or ink jets. These substrates can include film, common paper, plastic photographic paper, and even cloth.

Digital printing is by far the quickest and most affordable printing technique for a quantity of 500 prints or less. It is often used in preparing cards, multi-page documents, brochures, sell sheets, flyers, video boxes and CD packaging. Digital printing has several advantages over the traditional, and often more expensive, offset printing. Some of these advantages include:

Turnaround: If you need the work done fast, digital usually offers very fast delivery.

Cost-effective: In addition to being user-friendly, digital printing has low setup costs.

Proofing: Digital offers accurate proofs since you see an actual sample of the printed piece.

Customisation: Digital printing offers affordable and easy customisation of marketing materials, direct mail pieces, letters, etc.

For the domestic user: The ink and cartridges used for this kind of printing are widely available.

As you can see from the many advantages discussed above, it is little wonder why this form of printing is fast becoming the most popular method of printing.

To make the most of your digital printing, here are some helpful hints that will make the whole process of error and stress free:

- Wear cotton gloves and keep the printing media away from dust and grime.

- Give enough time for inkjet prints to dry.

- For preserving unused media, store in a plastic cover.

Digital printing has eliminated the long and laborious steps that are involved with traditional printing. It provides a much more affordable printing option for lower quantities. If you are after faster turnaround times with excellent print quality, then you should opt for digital printing.

The Benefits Of Solar Power Systems

There are many benefits when one decides to use solar power systems on their residence. People realize that they are not only helping the environment, but also saving money on their utility bills.

The popularity of solar power systems for residential home owners has grown as technology has advanced. Systems are much less expensive than they were in the past and people have found that they are also easier to install.

It is important when an individual is thinking about installing solar in their home that they talk about their options with a professional who has knowledge and expertise in solar power systems. These people have been trained and have the latest information about different types of installation and about the panels that will be most effective in specific locations.

There are many cases when an individual will discover that they need the assistance of a professional who is trained and knowledgeable in installing solar power systems. The systems, while relatively simple to understand, require some special knowledge to be installed properly and work efficiently.

The casings of the solar power systems are build to protect the panels. However when there is a severe storm these casings sometimes need to be repaired. It is important that one have their solar power system inspected after a severe storm so that any issues can be addressed before the panels within the casing are affected. Replacing the solar panels can be very expensive so inspecting and repairing the casing is well worth the cost.

Adding maintenance to the list of yearly tasks that are done to the home is also important. It is very easy to forget about solar power systems once they are installed and running smoothly. One will not notice that they need maintenance until the system malfunctions. By having the system checked on a yearly basis one insures that they system is running smoothly and that any possible problems have been addressed.

It is important if one decides to install their own solar system that they talk to other people who have used the same system. Finding out the pros and cons of using certain panels and casings will save an individual a lot of time. It is also advantageous to find out which systems work well in the area where the home is located. Talking to a professional about ways to store energy for short periods is also helpful. A professional technician can advise a homeowner on what types of back up energy they will need to support the home if there are several weeks of bad weather.

When one has an established relationship with their solar power systems company they will find that whenever they have an issue or concern the customer service representatives will send someone immediately to take care of the problem or answer the question.

There are very few parts on solar power systems. They look relatively easy to install and maintain. But they play a huge role in keeping a home running smoothly. It is very important that a person develop a long term relationship with a professional who will provide services and answer questions about the system when one has questions. By developing a long term relationship with a company one is assured that they are working with individuals that they can depend on.

Solar Power Home: Go Green And Save Some Green

November 22, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment

A Solar Power home is an option for the homeowner. This type of energy is efficient, environmentally friendly and less wasteful than electricity. It is not difficult for homes to be converted to this option. The initial investment is well worth the cost in the long run. There are many incentives available to the homeowner for converting to this technology.

For conversion, the first and most important aspect of switching to solar is to calculate what type of system you will need for the household. Powering unnecessarily would be very wasteful and draining on the system. Using the most energy efficient appliances is one tip that could help. As a homeowner replaces damaged appliances, opt for the most energy efficient model that the person can afford.

Energy efficient appliances are a must for a solar home. As appliances need replaced, it is best to decide on an energy efficient model regardless of what type of home a person occupies. One major problem of energy waste that most people do is leaving lights on when no one is in the room. Remember to turn them off when not required. Some suggest dining by candlelight a few nights per week. It creates a romantic atmosphere as well as saves money. Another tip is to use cold water when washing clothes. Heating water costs money. Also remember to make it a full load.

More helpful tips to save some money as well as retrain a person’s thinking with regards to switching to solar is to utilize a laptop computer instead of a desktop. The desktop uses more energy. Use a programmable thermostat to automatically lower the temperature later in the evening when everyone is sleeping and to turn the heat on in the morning when people are waking and getting ready for the day.

There are two styles of solar power home systems for the owner to decide on. These two systems are thought of as the Grid Tied system and the Off Grid system. Both are solar but different in the way they operate in the household. Both systems are very efficient in providing the household with solar energy.

A Grid Tied system uses the main utility grid. The house uses solar technology and once the house is supplied the surplus goes to the main power grid. If the house does not have enough power to operate, it can get supplemented from the utility company. If the house has surplus power stored, it diverts it to the Utility Companies main power grid. The utility company will then give the homeowner a refund or credit to their account. This is a win-win situation for the homeowner and the utility company.

The Off Grid system basically means the house is completely independent of conventional energy. The off grid system is a good option for people who will be residing in out of reach areas. In these remote areas, it can be very expensive to run power lines to the house. This option does require living in a sunny location to optimize the amount of solar light they receive.

The new technology is to have a Solar Power Home. These are energy efficient and economical replacements of the past energy systems. A homeowner has the choice whether to use the traditional system, Grid Tied system or a totally Off Grid system. Solar is economical, environmentally friendly and cost saving overall to the homeowner.

Lately I have been researching about credit cards. I have found that there are all types of rates and they all very greatly. Obviously everyone wants the best rate that they can find. I have set out to make sure that I can find the best rates available, but of course there are a few exceptions to the rule and every rule.

When you search for boys dress shirts you will find different things like zero interest for them the introductory months, balance transfers, balanced rates, and sometimes yearly fees and other things.

First of all people need to search for what kind of thing interests them the most. For me I like a good boys dress shirts policies. There are a lot of sites where you can find an honest boysdressshirts.org on the market today, and I seem to prefer the ones that give airline miles. So I tried to spend a lot of things on my airline miles reward cards credit card.

First of all see what kind of rewards card or other type of benefit you want in a credit card, then search the different companies and see which one has what you like the best. I think everyone has a preference when it comes to searching for a credit card company. Some prefer American Express, some Visa, some Mastercard, and of course there are others to choose from if you’d like. A simple search on the internet will give you a whole list. See what you can find and feel free to comment. Thank you.

Although a number of clients would love to have possession of any GPS unit from the more dear and forward-thinking Magellan Maestro series, the price tag might not be apt. That’s why, lots of consumers turn their attention to Magellan’s low-end RoadMate series for more easy on the pocket selections and Magellan revealed 3 GPS kits this year that unify the basic abilities of a GPS gadget with a few premium features, causing quite a fuss amidst buyers.

The Magellan Roadmate 1470 and Magellan Roadmate 1475T hold parallel features such as preloaded maps of U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico with 6 million Points of Interest, QuickSpell, an perceptive quality that foresees street names and cities while the client types a few letters, Multi-Destination Routing, Highway Lane Assist, Text-to-Speech, AAA Tourbook and Roadside Assistance menu. OneTouch, a favourites menu, gives road users speedy access to their customized bookmarks of favourite places and a “Plan route on map” quality makes routing exceptionally simple! More notably, they come with route selections, such as Fastest, Shortest, Most Used Freeways, Least Used Freeways and most cost-effective route to save drivers the most time and money probable. In addition, these devices each come with a 4.7-inch touchscreen display armed with zoom function, an revision from the earlier Roadmate devices, and maps which can be looked at in either 2-D or 3-D modes. Points of Interests are also revealed as end users draw near to the exits so that they will be aware early which exits to use to get to particular Points of Interests. The overabundance of traits, unrivalled usability and glossy design without doubt render these Magellan kits a good buy for customers! Yet the one added characteristic that comes packed with the Magellan Roadmate 1475T is a traffic–enabled mechanism (VPA) which offers subscription free, real-time traffic alerts, incidents and road congestion reports to clients, delivering improved usability and expediency.

On the other hand, the Magellan Roadmate 1440, which was unveiled in the first half of this year, gives a slighter but just as awe-inspiring 4.3-inch wide WQVGA color touchscreen with the exact equivalent characteristics as the Magellan Roadmate 1470. Of course, a smaller screen would purport that this unit cost less and is easy on the budget, perfect for those with a tight budget!

Are you looking for a catering service to handle your needs? Indeed there are many occasions where the service of a caterer might be useful. For instance a good birthday party or a wedding reception will not be interesting without some good food. This is why a caterer might be useful in this situation. In order to help you learn more on choosing a good caterer I have written this short article on this topic.

Your requirements should play an important part in the choice of your catering service. For most people the meals will vary according to the culture and ethnic origin and it is important that you find a caterer that will provide such dishes. Alternatively you might also want a slight modification in the meals that is offered by the catering service and it is important that he accepts this. All these things should form part of your decision making process.

Another thing that you have to pay attention to is your financial ability. The price of catering service will reckon on the meals that you are looking for. In most cases a food that is not found on the menu list will charge more than an average one. It is important that you consider this when choosing your catering service. French readers that lack to learn more can take out this article on caterers (recette quinoa) and party caterer so as to read more on this.

You should also make sure that you have tried the service before hand before booking the service. Try to ask the caterer for some samples to make sure that their food is of good quality. You would not want to lose face on the day of your reception. Alternatively you can seek for some references from friends and relatives before choosing a catering service.

A good catering service can ensure the success of a party even if the other features are not that good. People may forget anything with good food and good drink! This is why it is important that you make your best to get a really good catering service for your party. This will ensure that your reception does not fall into oblivion.

CA Antioch an interesting town that’s going through a hard time.

Ca Antioch is a bustling little California town that had a  huge spike in real estate prices in the early 2,000’s as did much of the country. But few places have been harder hit by the following housing market correction that this area of the country.

Sure, like many the people of CA Antioch thought woo whoo here we go, were all going to be real estate millionaires move over Donald I’m coming thru. and then once again like most there was a big, no, huge oops attached to that, it was called a market correction. No one who got caught in it should feel bad about not having seen it coming. Heck, most of the power players and market makers didn’t see it coming either, until it was too late that is.

So, to say that CA Antioch is a depressed area is not really fare to the people who live there. These are good hardworking Americans who like everyone else got caught between a rock and a hard place when it all came tumbling down. Kind of reminds me of a John Cougar song “when the walls come tumbling down” (I know I’m showing my age by quoting a song from that era but it fits).

Jobs were already scarce in this waterside town and now with the tourist trade all but dried up its slim pickings indeed. But, I noticed something about this little place most people have never heard of and that is it’s a place that has got attitude. The people here are resilient and are a breed that you can’t push down no matter how hard times get, these people are as scrappy as it gets make no mistake.

As you likely know, a piece of dirt, a chunk of real estate doesn’t make a town the people who live there do. We all have a choice we can get down and get angry about what has happened in this great land we call our home or we can do something about it. Most wonder well, what can I do I am just one person and I’ve got my own problems. True, you are just one and we are all in the same boat but…

We can start by walking out our own front door as to say and knock on the door of our neighbor. When they answer we can simply invite them over for maybe dinner and a game of cards. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy at all. Just get together, start bonding with the people who are your fellow man and let them know that someone cares. When you do this you will both find that there are good caring people all around you and that you are one of them.

Income Tax Return Forms

November 20, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment

What is this that’s called the income tax return? Each spring we file federal and state income tax returns. We have gotten used to filing our taxes, paying them, and getting our tax refund, but somehow the term “tax return” is not always clearly understood.

The story begins in January through March of every year when wage earners receive their wage and tax withholding print out from their employers. Those in school will receive statements of tuition, scholarship, and aid information covering the previous 12 months. An income tax return form is then used to take the amount earned and calculate the correct dollar amount of taxes for which the individual is liable.

Although a person filing the papers detailing earnings, deductions, and taxes may have some or all of their withheld taxes returned to them, that is not what is meant by the term “income tax return”. Actually, what “tax return” refers to is three parted. First, you are letting the government know, or are returning a report on, how much you made in the previous year. Next you are stating how much you have paid in taxes, up till the end of the year. Finally, the return details how much income tax is your responsibility.

So in going through this tax return process many people show that they have overpaid their income tax and therefore have a refund coming. The alternative is of course, that there was not enough money withheld, or that the quarterly payments fell short of estimates and now a payment is owed.

Summarizing, the phrase “income tax return” is referring to the document that you fill out and send to the IRS and to your state tax department.

What is it About Alfa Romeo?

November 20, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment

Alfa Romeo contract hire is far from the most popular lease car amongst our clients, it is however without a doubt the car with at least as much and sometimes more class than cars that are significantly more expensive.

What is it about Alfa Romeo that makes a relatively inexpensive vehicle, a car that no one would be embarrassed to own? It is Italian, which is presumably a factor and they are beautifully designed, as is so much of what comes out of Italy.

So what do people think of Alfa Romeo owners? Well we don’t really know but we know that saying you drive an Alfa Romeo gets a very different reaction from saying you drive a Ford Mondeo. This is in spite of the fact that you can pay over £26,000 for a Mondeo and yet you can buy an Alfa Romeo for under £11,000. To be frank a Mondeo is in a different class from an Alfa in every respect, apart from, well class.

Perhaps people assume that if someone owns an Alfa Romeo, it is their choice and has nothing to do with the fact that the car is quite inexpensive; more the case that they want an Alfa Romeo and would buy one whatever the cost.

Alfa Romeos go wrong but then so do Ferraris, although you never hear anyone say “My Ferrari wouldn’t start this morning, I think I’ll buy a nice reliable Volvo instead”. Italian car are generally beautiful but high maintenance. Perhaps their owners take the view that it’s a price worth paying.

There is also a slight problem with rust, which is not uncommon with Italian cars, although it doesn’t seem to be too much of a problem for their owners; they probably would be very unhappy if the same rust appeared on their Vauxhall Vectra but owners of Italian cars just seem to take it in their stride.

As you would expect the Alfa Romeo’s value depreciates fairly steeply and that is reflected to some extent in car leasing prices, although to balance that contract hire companies do have some very favourable deals with Alfa Romeo. Of course the depreciation that is not so good from a car leasing perspective, because it affects the residual values, is great for second hand buyers.

The very stylish Spider costs just under £27,000 about the same price as a top of the range Ford Mondeo but what a different car, although it’s unfair to compare a Ford, Vauxhall or Volvo with an Alfa Romeo; they really are in different worlds and so in our experience, as a car leasing company, are their drivers.

The Spectacular 8C and 8C Competizione of which only 500 of each were produced, were immediately sold. Only 41 of the 8C Competizione came to the UK and were subsequently changing hands at more £50,000 over the book price.

It’s difficult to define exactly what it is that draws people to buying or acquiring an Alfa Romeo lease car, it is perhaps partly it’s stylish looks, partly the romantic image and the company’s long association with motor racing; even back in the early 1900’s they were producing a road car with a 4.1 Litre engine and a top speed of over 100 kmh.

Whatever the attraction is it is almost impossible to persuade a client planning to contract hire an Alfa Romeo to consider a different lease car; there mind is generally made up and you could offer them the top of the range model of a more mundane, albeit more expensive car and it would probably have no attraction whatsoever.

You could be paying out large sums of money and while there shouldn’t be a wait for settlement, you may not want to be troubled with this and prefer instead to aquire a medical insurance cover where you simply focus on recovery and leave the bill-paying with someone else.

Most insurers have an age limit on new customers, while insurance advisers will take people of any age group. However as  people become older the likelihood of them needing an increased level of medical care is greater and as a result their health insurance policy rates wills usually increase.

In many cases the insurer will decline to insure, whilst with other insurance companies you will be offered insurance cover, but with clauses. If you can recollect the most recent 25 years, you’ll in all probability recall the “status” which went along with owning adequate credit cards to terminate a train.

And with the current credit crunch, loan companies have become slightly more demanding of whom they choose to loan money to. Loan companies are employing credit reports in a more exhaustive manner and a person’s credit score has never been more significant to them.

They are observing, based on the applicant’s credit past, whether or perhaps not they will default on the repayment of the borrowings.

Why you should use a Dog Walker

November 18, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

A Phoenix Dog Walker once told me that a dog sitter is the most important person you can hire.  Why? Because your pets are like the women in your house.  If the women are not happy, then no one is happy.  To hire a good pet sitter means to invest in your pets happiness and therefore invest in your household’s happiness.

Having two dogs has been frustrating at times because we come home to a house full of rolled out toilet paper and ripped up magazines.  I recall one day coming home from a crazy day at soccer practice where we did nothing but soccer conditioning drills.  The dogs had taken the toilet paper and spread it all around the house, the newspapers were torn to shreds throughout the kitchen, and the new couch was covered in dog hair with the torn up cushoins  on the floor.  The dogs did not have to go out, yet they were bored and frustrated.  Because they are animals, they simply cannot express themselves in a way we understand and they do weird things to grab our attention.

Now had we hired a pet sitter then our pets would not been nearly as frustrated.  Not that they don’t have the ability to hold their bladders all day, but really, who wants to be shut up inside all day long?  Day after day of being shut up leads to unhappy and unhealthy pets.  Unhealthy cats lead to frustrated pet owners and so the cycle continues.

Minnesota State Tax Forms for 2009, 2010

November 18, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

We will start at the beginning with two simple outcomes. One is, you will receive a refund and the other possible outcome is you will have taxes due to the State of Minnesota. Who do you write the payment out to? Minnesota Revenue is who you will make the payment to.

 When are the taxes due?

The taxes are due April 15th, which is the due date every year. Now, if you don’t pay by April 15th and you owe taxes then, you will have to pay late fees and a penalty. If on the other hand you have a refund coming, you have 3 ½ years to file your Minnesota return for the refund. I don’t know who would want to wait that long but, it’s up to you.

What if I’m late in filing my taxes and I owe money?

Okay, if you know you owe money but, don’t have your paperwork in order to file your return then, you can avoid the penalty by estimating the amount of taxes you owe. You can pay the estimated amount owed either electronically using the e-File Minnesota system or you can send a check with Form M13. M13 is the income tax extension payment Form.

How much do I have to pay?

You must pay at least 90 percent of your total tax due to show your good faith payment. If you pay at least 90 percent of your taxes owed then, the penalty will not be used against you. However, you will be charged interest on the remaining taxes due that are unpaid by April 15th. As I have already stated, you will not be charged a late payment penalty as long as you file the Minnesota income tax return and pay the balance by October 15th.

What should a part time resident do for Minnesota state tax forms?

If you lived in Minnesota for part of the year you are still required to file all of your income sources received during the time you lived in Minnesota. If you don’t meet the filing requirement, you will still want to file to receive a refund of the withholding. You will use Form M1 and Schedule M1NR.

I still have questions

If you have more questions about your Minnesota State Tax Form then, you might want to consult with the tax professionals at TurboTax Online. First of all they will search for over 350 possible deductions you may deserve to receive and you guaranteed the largest refund possible if you have one coming.

Millions of dollars do not find their way to the taxpayer’s pockets because they miss their deductions. Don’t miss out on what you’re entitled to!

Algiers - a Wonderous Mix

November 17, 2009 by The Linux Tutor · Leave a Comment

algiersAlgiers is located on series of terraces that clamber up the hillsides from the sea, towered over by the ramparts of the medieval Casbah, the Old City. Full of flowers, beautiful villas and luxuriously green gardens, the geography of this Mediterranean city is best understood as a huge triangle.

The seaside European quarter is its wide base, which narrows as it ascends the close winding lanes to the Moorish quarter, eventually coming to a point at the city’s old fortress high above.

Island of the Gull.
The first settlers on the coast of Algiers, aside from the native Berber tribes, arrived around 400 BCE. These were Carthaginian merchants in search of a convenient harbour in the western Mediterranean. During the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage, this settlement, known as Ikosim (”Island of the Gulls”) fell to the Roman Empire.

The most significant moment in the city’s history came with the conquest of the Late Roman Numidian Kingdom by the Muslim Arabs around 700 CE. The official founding of the city did not take place until 935 CE, when the Berber tribes (by then converted to Islam) named their harbour Al-Jazir (”White Island”). The city extended no further than what is today the Old City of Algiers, the Casbah.

A bastion for pirates.
After the Moors were driven out of Spain in the fifteenth century, Algiers was the launching point for numerous military expeditions to the Iberian Peninsula, but the Moors were never able to regain control of Spain. In fact, the Catholic Spaniards conquered Algiers instead, taking control of the city in 1509. The city suffered under Christian oppression for ten years before Ottoman Khaireddin Barbarossa recaptured Algiers in 1519 in a daring naval assault. The city and country would henceforth be part of the Ottoman Empire.

In the following years, Khaireddin Barbarossa built Algiers into one of the most powerful bastions on the Mediterranean. Up until his death 1546, he used it as the base for countless raids along the Mediterranean coast, besieging Spanish as well as Moorish cities, and bringing all of Algeria under his control. In Europe, the name Algiers became synonymous with a pirate’s den. In France, however, this was not the case. The French had long been in league with Khaireddin.

From allies to conquerors.
Although European nations tried again and again to recapture the city, all attempts failed miserably. Then, in the 19th century, the French gave it another try. Their conquest of Algeria began with the landing in 1830 at Sidi Fredj near Algiers. The final subjugation tool over fifty years.

After Algiers became a French colony in 1882, a huge influx of French companies and workers arrived and the city grew exponentially. The European residential areas built at that time still shape the cityscape of contemporary Algiers particularly at the base of the “triangle” along the 2-km-long boulevard along the harbour.

In the Casbah. The interplay between Berber pride, Ottoman organization and French sophistication lends Algiers a special charm. Visitors climbing from the French-influenced harbour district up to the Old City of the Casbah experience the city’s different cultures as well as its history.

Built around 1500 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, the Casbah is the old citadel of the Ottoman governors of Algiers. The higher one climbs, the more narrow and twisting the lanes become. The houses are crammed so close together that they nearly touch, and balconies are connected to one another above street level. Several important mosques are located in the midst of this confusion, including the Grand Mosque, the New Mosque and the Ketchaoua Mosque. All are renowned for their antiquity and architectural diversity.
