Antique Fireplace Mantels

July 8th, 2009

A fireplace is not complete without a mantel. A fireplace mantel or mantelpiece is also called a chimney piece. It has been in existence since the medieval times when people loved to have decorative mantelpieces so that the focus of the room would be on them. A mantel started as a hood over a grate to catch the smoke. But now fireplace mantels are used more for decorative purposes and for looking beautiful.

Even today in rural areas and farms the traditional and the antique mantel pieces still exist. Some people love antique things and would go to great lengths to buy antique pieces. Farms and huge houses in the villages have these antique fireplaces which have an old world charm of their own. In some places the antique fireplace on a farm was used mainly as a cooking area where even a bread oven was sometimes incorporated. Those were the days of large houses and large families. One can imagine hordes of children and adults around a outdoor fireplace where cooking is also done and where the food is kept on shelves around an antique fireplace mantel. Those days are gone and now the mantel pieces have shrunk in size and added on the beauty. In cities the antique fireplace is smaller and fancier and is used solely for heating purposes.

For many centuries in the olden times, the mantelpiece was the most ornamental and artistic piece of the room. Great trouble was taken to design them specifically, sometimes with specific designs suggested by the head of the family. But as the fireplaces shrunk down the ages and other methods of heating introduced, the artistic as well as the practical significance of the fireplace mantel lessened. But now again it is back in preference and many people would love to go in for antique fireplace mantels.

The more intricate and creative they are more is their value. Some people specially order and get made antique fireplace mantels. Some research and go in search of the really ancient and antique ones which may be available in old houses and old families who may be reluctant to part with them. Ancient and antique mantelpieces may be available with antique dealers who may even have auctions for them. Loves of antique things will love to buy these for their own houses. Even a house with a modern decor will look better with an antique fireplace mantel. These mantels have great appeal and are interesting.

Ringing Ears - Treatment Secrets

July 8th, 2009

Ringing Ears?

Are you frightened to go out with friends or family as you know all you’ll be ready to focus on is the constant ringing in the ear that you hear? Do you wish you might be free of this and could go back to living a normal life? About 25% of all folks have tinnitus or a sound of ringing or buzzing in their ear. Out of those folks only about 25% of them ever try to get a way to treat it or cure it. Here are some other things you must know about tinnitus.

First, when you begin to hear the ringing in the ear you may notice it as a tiny and terribly faint sound. If this is left untreated and just left to get worse the noise will get louder and louder. It will become so loud that it distracts you from almost everything and it will be almost impossible to drown out with anything else. This will have a terribly negative effect on your life, particularly the social side of things and in really serious cases can basically lead you to go insane.

Second, the ringing in the ear could have been caused by too much exposure to loud noises. If you’d like to keep it from worsening, then you need to always be wearing ear plugs when you are around anything loud and you need to ensure you are not playing music or the television too loud too. This could continue to hurt the already hurt inner parts of your ears and will cause the noise to become worse and more distracting.

Last, this could have also been due to drinking too much alcohol and it is very common in recovering alcoholics. This is due to the balance problem that alcohol causes in your body, which may also cause the inner ear to be effected. You could have also ended up with this noise due to inner ear infections or having tubes put into your ears for long periods of the Whatever the cause was you are certainly going to want to find a treatment or a cure so that it does not interrupt your life anymore.

Before you can even think about finding a ringing ears cure you must be sure as to the reasons your tinnitus started in the first place. Exposure to noise accounts for more than 80% of all ringing in the ear cases worldwide. Ringing ears can be caused by fireworks, gun shots, economic apparatus or perhaps awfully loud factories and if you are surrounded by any of these noises on a daily basis you should use ear protection. Some common ear ringing mistakes:

If you are following a healthful diet and are getting plenty of exercise this will help in your quest for finding a ringing ears cure. Regular exercise can help excite the blood flow in the ear canal and help ease the noises. Your diet can also play a big part in your recovery, ensure you duck unnecessary alcohol intakes, chain smoking and eating foods loaded with salt. If you listen to music with earphones ensure that you keep the volume down, if you listen with earphones with the levels too high it can end up in tinnitus being caused.

Studies has demonstrated that tinnitus occurs more regularly in fat adults. Vitamin B12 is a vitamin that you must involve in your regimen to enhance a ringing ears cure. Some trials points to the fact that this vitamin helps to protect the nerves in the inner ear. Milk and dairy products, beef and eggs are good sources of vitamin B12. According to the most recent trials there are many treatments for relaxing tinnitus, but there’s no one cure.

The data found here is for researching purposes only. No medical treatment is meant. As with any condition it is recommended for you to consult a health professional when considering medical advice.

Convert UIF to .iso

July 8th, 2009

Universal Image Format is an CD image file format with .uif extension. CD or DVD images incompressed form are of this type. The UIF is usually used for the purpose to create, edit, or extract data. This format is completely compatible with all popular operating systems.

The UIF files contain various features that make them different from the other types of image files of this kind.

  • Data Protection: The Universal Image Format (UIF) helps you keep safe the confidential files. This format combines various types of protection features, including password protection, data encryption program, and MD5 checksum support system.
  • Excellent Compression: ZIP and RAR archives are widely used for file compression, but the UIF has its own superior technology that enables the files to occupy lesser space than any other archives and at the same time permits you to put more data.
  • High Speed: The UIF is really fast in its operation but it never corrupts or loses any data from the archive.
  • Versatile range of function: UIF is randomly used to prepare a complete data into an ISO image for a CD or DVD. It is also quite efficient to serve as a backup of DVDs, CDs, CDs.CDs, SVCD, and plain audio CDs. You can also use it to edit and extract file as well as burning data.

In the process of conversion and utilizing image file formats, including ISO and CUE/BIN, the UIF format is perhaps the most effective. You can easily convert BIN to ISO according to your requirements and later on you can bring it back to its original form. It has been designed to fulfill the purpose of file editing without extracting or decompressing them. Bootable image files and mount disc images are also made with UIF, through the MagicISO Virtual DVD/CD, a freeware utility application, which has been designed by MagicISO and is the perfect complement for UIF.

Wide range of compatibility: UIF format is compatible with Windows and Linux operating systems. Do not worry if you use Mac. All you have to do is to covert the UIF to ISO through MagicISO freeware. The process of converting will take only a few moments and you can complete simply by drag and drop.

How to Open a UIF file:

If you want to find out how to open UIF file, first you will need to download the MagicISO application. Once it’s done, install & run the progam and click on the TOOLS menu and select DECOMPRESS UIF IMAGE. Step by step, select the source file and the destination of the ISO file. Then by following the drag and drop options convert the UIF file to ISO format, which is more popular and better supported by freeware tools.

Finally, download the MagicDisc, which is a free program and install it. Put the MagicDisc option on your desktop. The next step is to expand VIRTUAL CD/DVD ROM, select NO MEDIA and then MOUNT. Finally, find the decompressed ISO file on your PC and click OPEN.

spent an evening reading

July 8th, 2009

With winter coming - in many areas there is already enough snow to make the landscape look like in a fairy tale. And that brings us directly to the topic: Why not read some tales again? There is a wonderful new book with tales: The Tales of Beedle the Bard (german title: Die Märchen von Beedle dem Barden by Joanne K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame. It contains five wonderfully illustrated tales (the illustrations were done by J.K. Rowling herself) and is surely going to be a bestseller soon.

My next suggestion is a real classic: “The Pillars of the World” by Ken Follet (again, as I am german, the german title: Die Säulen der Erde), a novel with colorful insight to life in the medieval ages in England. A very complex story about quite a lot of people involved in building a cathedral or some in trying to prevent it…

And if you like the writing style of Ken Follet and if you like the middle ages - why not stick with him and read “World without End” (german title: Die Tore der Welt) It is somehow a sequel to “The Pillars of the World”, as it plays in the same city only 200 years later and some of the protagonists are descendants of the first book’s heroes. At a closer look it a self-contained independent story, but as captivating as its predecessor!
